I was nervous to spend so much on a coffee maker but I am pleased to report it's well worth it. Sure, you can get other makes of coffee makers for under $25 if economy is the most important feature, but I've had those machines and I made a decision that, this time, a good mug of coffee was most vital for me. This machine brews the best coffee I've had in a long time and surpisingly tastes better than most coffee I've had in cafes.

The water essentially runs up a track onto the underside of the lid and is splattered over the ground coffee like a rain shower.

It's an enticing unit but it also appears like a serious coffee maker. This unit is no toy. It feels and looks solid. The carafe has a good strong feel and balance. It isn't the light-weight useless plastic that cracks and discolors easily in the cheap coffee makers.

I like the 5 beeps when the coffee is ready. Now I'll leave the kitchen and go clean or whatever and I don't have to keep coming over to see if I can get a cup yet. I hear the beeps. But if I can't wait and need a cup in mid-brew, I will just take away the pot and pour a cup - you've a a full half a minute to reinsert the pot, before you risk an overflowing filter. I am fond of the permanent gold-tone filter too. I thought paper filters were a pain.

Most Cuisinart coffee makers have an indicator light for cleaning -- it is saying it's "self-cleaning" but really it's just a light telling you when you need to pour in a bowl of water/vinegar and run it through to decalcify the unit. (I never imagined to do that with my other units. Likely another excuse my coffee wasn't as rich as I wanted it to be.)

The hot plate settings is nice and handy too. And the auto-shutoff feature is great. I don't have to fret about forgetting to turn the machine off. The instruction booklet is very good and really comprehensive. It incorporates a parts reordering form too.

Just have to pour a little carefully.

Read more about Cuisinart Coffee Makers: Cuisinart .
